About Us

The Kettle Moraine Studio Tour began in 1999 when a group of 5 working Artists showed their artwork at the new Studio/Gallery of Tom Rauschke and Kaaren Wiken, just outside Palmyra, Wisconsin. The following year all the Artists decided to open their Studios to the public on one weekend in October, sharing a more intimate view of how and where their artwork is produced. An additional plus was that all the Studios were located in a beautiful area of Southern Wisconsin known as the Kettle Moraine, and the 2nd weekend of October is often right in the middle of peak Fall color season. The inspiration is all around.

Over the 18 years of the Tour, 13 different studios have been featured, and over 32 Guest Artists have been presented.

For 2017  the Kettle Moraine Studio Tour is focusing on the Palmyra area, and has added 2 new venues to the remaining two original Studios on the Tour.

The Turner Museum in downtown Palmyra will be open with its current exhibits of the history of Palmyra but also a special behind the scenes tour of the Exhibit Preparation Area. Palmyra artists Charles Kilmer, a wood sculptor, and Fred Wurzbach, the local chronicler and painter, will be showing their artwork at the museum as well.

The other new stop for the Tour is the DNR Headquarters Museum, just East of Palmyra, where the evocative murals painted by the late Robert Frankowiac adorn many of the walls. Robert passed away this past February…… there will also be some additional smaller scale paintings on view, brought in just for the Tour weekend. Some prints will be available. We feel these murals are truly a hidden treasure in our backyard.

For the first time the Tour is pleased to present the oil paintings of well know artist Michael Newhall at the Piano Studio of Bob Hohf, along with Tour veteran Sherida Wank, presenting her latest work in precious metals.

For the entire history of the Tour, the Headquarters has been the XN trix Studios, home of Tom Rauschke and Kaaren Wiken, nationally known artist couple. Tom’s latest work in wood, and Kaaren’s in metal, are sure to surprise and amaze.

Back by popular demand to the XN trix studio is ceramic sculptor Jef Raasch with his amazing ceramic creatures. Joining Jef at the XN trix Gallery will be returning potter and sculptor, Mike Imes with his organic sculptures and functional pottery.

The Tour for 2017  is October 14th and 15th and runs from 10:AM until 5:PM both days. Admission to the Tour is free.
